What does God say about Love?
Imagine being loved perfectly. What would it be like?
God loves everybody. Regardless of your past, your failures, and your imperfections - He loves you. He waits with bated breath to be loved in return. He won’t force you to love Him back. If you don’t, He still loves you as much as He always has. But when you love Him in return. Oh my! That’s when God turns on His blessing faucet full blast. That’s when He eagerly anticipates spending time with us every day. That’s when He shows us His vision for our lives and grows us up to realize that vision. His love protects, provides, cherishes, comforts, forgives. His love cries when we cry; laughs when we laugh.
One of the men who lived before Jesus was born was named Zephaniah. He lived out God’s vision for his life by passing along a message. God gave Zephaniah this message and asked him to pass it along to God’s people--all the people who choose to love God back. Here’s what God’s message is:
For the Lord your God is living among you.
He is a mighty savior.
He will take delight in you with gladness.
With his love, he will calm all your fears.
He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”
It’s hard for us to imagine perfect, selfless love that seeks only the very best for our lives. Try as we might, we can’t manage to love that well. But God loves perfectly. He longs to enter into a relationship with you that is sustained by His love. He’s just waiting for you to say, “I love you, too.”
