Why Tech Matters

Chris and Tina have been serving at Van Dyke Church for almost 10 years. Currently, they are active members of the Worship and Technology team, volunteering their time during weekend services to help run the lights, sound, and video. Listen in to hear a little bit about why they serve.

Tina: “In 2005, our lives were turned upside down when we were given custody of our three nieces and nephews. Along with our families, we became a family of nine overnight. Van Dyke Church stepped up in a big way. It was just before Christmas and we could not have Christmas if it wasn’t for the people at Van Dyke Church. Every year thereafter, when things were really hard, someone was always there to listen or to help.

“For me, us volunteering is a way for me to say thank you for all of that. Because now all the kids are grown, they are out of the house, they are in college or married. We are able to give back to the people who have gave so much to us.

“I enjoy what I do and it’s a great way to worship in a completely different way.”

Chris: “In a lot of ways I feel like I’m a part of the service in some way.  Whether it’s pushing a button to control a light, or operating a camera, or being a director in the creepy little room in the back. I feel that in some way I may have played a part in someone’s salvation. It gives me overwhelming enjoyment in my life.

“And one of the benefits is we don’t have to worry about what we wear because we get a t-shirt.”
