Adopt A School

Starting in 2012, Bay Hope Church began adopting under-resourced schools in our community where we can make a difference in children’s futures. We form relationships with students by showing up consistently, sharing love and encouraging literacy. We serve hungry school families by helping in school food pantries. We care for school staff throughout the year and assist with school functions.

How to help?

Give a book

Every child at our 5 adopted schools will start the year off with a book of their own to read! Books can be costly for families who are struggling and libraries are not always accessible for families without transportation. Partner with us and use the link below to buy a book from our amazon wish list.

book buddy

Read with individual students weekly in classrooms during school hours and some limited after school times. We invest time and love to inspire kids as they develop vital literacy skills. Buddies visit their class weekly for about 1.5 hours, anytime between 8:00am-noon on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Volunteers may also choose to support teachers in a tutoring role, if desired.

Food pantry

Assist with sorting, shelving and bagging groceries on days when Feeding Tampa Bay delivers food to the pantry. (weekly at Mort for 2-3 hours, biweekly at Woodbridge) Another option is to distribute bagged groceries to school families who come on pick-up days.
(2-3 hours on pick-up days weekly at Mort and bi-weekly at Woodbridge)

Our Schools

Miles Elementary

In 2021, Bay Hope expanded our support of under-resourced, high-need schools in our community by partnering with Miles Elementary. We show God's love by spending one-on-one time reading with students and encouraging staff and families.

Mort Elementary

Mort Elementary is a community partnership school located near USF on Bearss Ave. Mort was our first adopted school in 2012. We serve Mort as Book Buddies, Food Pantry Helpers, Staff Care and more.

Rosa Valdez

Rosa Valdez Early Learning Center cares for about 65 infant- preschool age children. Cornerstone Family Ministries has operated this childcare center since 1892. It is one of only 2 Nationally Accredited Childcare Centers in the inner-city neighborhood known as Old West Tampa. We sponsor parent-education and child literacy programs and shower their dedicated staff with love.

Woodbridge Elementary

Woodbridge Elementary was adopted by the Westchase campus in the Town and Country area of Tampa. We help with the school food pantry, read with students and care for staff throughout the year.
