What is Baptism?

The Bible clearly teaches that baptism is the next step of obedience after making a commitment to Christ. During the act of baptism, the believer communicates to the world their heartfelt commitment to Christ.

Believer Baptism is for older children, youth, and adults at Bay Hope Church is typically by full immersion. That means you are fully submerged in (heated!) water by the pastor.

For children who are not yet able to make the decision themselves, we celebrate God's grace already at work in their lives through infant baptism. This is done by sprinkling (the pastor puts a small amount of water on the child's head).

All baptisms are preceeded by a prerequisite baptism class to answer any questions you might have and help you get started on your faith journey. We are thrilled to celebrate with you.

Are you ready to take the next step? Register for an upcoming baptism weekend!

Early Childhood (Infant) Baptism Weekend

We celebrate God's grace through early childhood baptism. A young child doesn't yet have the ability to make faith choices for their own life. However, God's grace is for all people. Early childhood baptism is encouraged for parents who are serious about their commitment to God and who are willing to enter into a covenent between themselves and God to raise their family, to the best of their ability, to love and follow Jesus. Through baptism, we celebrate God's grace already at work in the life of the child.

Families can participate in infant baptism with children younger than kindergarten age.

Raised to Life Believer Baptism Weekend

The Bible clearly teaches that baptism is the first step of obedience after making a commitment to Christ. Baptism allows a believer to communicate to the world their heart-felt commitment to Christ. Baptisms are full immersion. Bay Hope requires a baptism class before a candidate gets baptized.

Believer Baptism Weekend: April 21/22

Children (5th grade and under) must attend Starting Line Classes with a parent to prepare for baptism.

Students and adults should attend the baptism class offered the Sunday or Wednesday prior to Baptism weekend.

Families getting baptized together can attend the class appropriate for the youngest person getting baptized.
